Teaching Method Our language classes for children are immersion based. Children learn through the use of games, songs, puppet shows, role playing and hands-on activities. Our natural approach to teaching language skills makes learning fun! Children are grouped according to proficiency levels and abilities.
Curriculum Our “theme based” curriculum is one where during each session; students learn vocabulary and other language skills related to a particular subject matter. For every session that a child is enrolled in the program, their vocabulary and conversational skills will continue to grow and improve. We choose our themes based on the State Board of Education requirements.
Materials Our student materials consist of theme based workbooks and CDs. The main purpose of our materials is to bridge the gap between the classroom and home. It is important for children to be exposed to the language as much as possible. Our CDs include songs that go with each lesson making the learning experience fun and effortless, which ultimately helps the child retain the vocabulary they are learning in class.
Our students' progress We have been providing our program since 1993 and therefore have had the opportunity to track our student's (from prek-eighth grade) to determine the effectiveness of our program.
According to the ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) there are 4 levels of language proficiency. These levels are; novice, intermediate, advanced and superior.
Students completing the Language Leaders program, possess a superior level of proficiency, pass high school and college equivalency tests and typically begin learning their third language by the time they reach high school.
ACTFL assessments and ratings are recognized by the federal Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) and the American Council on Education (ACE). ACTFL ratings have emerged as a standard measure of language proficiency in the U.S. and internationally.
